New Ultra Low Hydro Rate in Ontario
The Province of Ontario has announced (May 2023) an ultra low rate (ULR) for 2.4 cents per kWh for any hydro consumed between 11 PM and 7:00 AM in the morning. This applies to any hydro service with a peak load of less than 50K. One would use a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to power your operations during the day and recharged it at night. This is ideal for any business such as coffee shops, restaurants, Gas Bars, convenience stores, fitness clubs. Any business with operates 24/7.
Moreover, if you are concerned with blackouts- one could install a back up generator to recharge the BESS etc. Thus, you would have cheaper hydro and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). Moreover, in addition to the new 30% Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), a BESS is eligible for interest free loans from the Government of Canada and incentives from Enbridge Gas.
