Solar

When the Ontario Green Energy Act was first introduced the Province provided for generous incentives in order to promote solar. In July 1st, 2017 the Province terminated the FIT program and Introduced the Net Metering Program. They did increase the cap from 500k to ten (10) MW’s. As of December 1st, 2017 the Province of Ontario has terminated the MicroFIT program for homeowners.

Please Note: The Province is ready to set out the rules for carbon offsets which will be available to solar projects. The value of these offsets is not known as of yet. The four (4) carbon auctions held in 2017 raised approx. 1.9 Billion dollars and the average selling price was $18 CDN. The price of carbon is expected to rise to $50 per tonne CDN by 2022. (A 500K solar project in Ontario produces approx 720,000 kwh and reduces greenhouses gases by 536 tonnes.)
